    POLICY

    A. Purpose

    Visiting faculty is a position for faculty members from universities and colleges outside the University of California (UC) system.

    B. Persons Affected

    This policy applies to non-represented employees. Represented employees should consult their collective bargaining agreement (CBA).

    C. Exceptions

    Requests that exceed what is allowed under current policy or that are not expressly addressed by current policy are considered exceptions to policy. A request for an exception to policy requires, at a minimum, the approval of the Chief Human Resources Officer.

    D. Policy Statement

    1. Visiting Faculty
      1. Visiting faculty is a position for faculty members from universities and colleges outside the UC system. Appointment to a visiting faculty position requires approval from the home institution.
      2. The visiting faculty position is a limited appointment and adheres to the provisions of the Appointments, Limited policy.
      3. The division director makes appointments to a visiting faculty position. A search is not required.
      4. Salary. The salary for a visiting faculty member is based upon the faculty salary rate at the home institution.
      5. Qualifications. Qualifications for visiting faculty are appropriate to the work to be performed. In most cases, they will be analogous to the qualifications for a scientist/engineer position. (See the Appointments, Scientist & Engineer policy.)
    2. Termination of Appointment. The division director, in accordance with the Appointments, Limited policy, may terminate visiting faculty at any time.

    E. Roles and Responsibilities

    Managers, supervisors, and employees have the responsibility to adhere to the provisions of this policy.
