    POLICY

    A. Purpose

    This policy defines the terms and conditions of re-employing individuals who have retired from the University of California Retirement Plan (UCRP) into a Limited, Career, or Term appointment.

    B. Persons Affected

    • Individuals who have retired from the UCRP who are reemployed at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab).
    • This policy applies to non-represented employees. Represented employees should consult their collective bargaining agreement (CBA). 

    C. Exceptions

    Requests that exceed what is allowed under current policy or that are not expressly addressed by current policy are considered exceptions to policy. A request for an exception to policy requires, at a minimum, approval by the Chief Human Resources Officer.

    D. Policy Statement

    1. General. Individuals who have retired from the University of California Retirement Plan (hereinafter referred to as "rehired retirees") may be reemployed by Berkeley Lab into a Limited, Career, or Term appointment in accordance with the provisions of the following University of California policy, procedures, and frequently asked questions:
      1. Reemployment of UC Retired Employees Into Senior Management Group and Staff Positions
        1. Implementation Procedures
        2. Frequently Asked Questions
    2. Term Appointments. The provisions of Section III.C.5., Reemployment into Career Appointments of the aforementioned policy will apply to reemployment into Term appointments.
    3. Line Management Responsibilities. Individuals hired as rehired retirees may not supervise staff or contract workers, nor host affiliates.

    E. Roles and Responsibilities

    Managers, supervisors, and employees have the responsibility to adhere to the provisions of this policy.
