How do I remote access my Mac at work?

(Setting up the work Mac to accept remote connection)

  1. Minimize/close all of your open windows.

  2. Click anywhere on your desktop to return to the FINDER menu bar.

  3. Click the Apple icon and select SYSTEM PREFERENCES.

  4. Click on SHARING.

  5. Select SCREEN SHARING. (Note: The connection information is inside the red oval. Enter this information on the remote Mac in the Screen Sharing-> Connect To window. See last section of this document.)

  6. Close the System Preferences window.

(Setting up the remote computer)

  1. To connect to the work Mac from an offsite location (home, hotel, etc.), vpn will be required. See How to install vpn if your Mac does not have vpn already.
  2. Bring up Spotlight Search by clicking on the magnifying glass at the top right corner 
  3. Type in screen and the Screen Sharing application will come up
  4. Drag the Screen Sharing icon on the left to the dock.

(Connecting to the Mac at work)

  1. Connect to your local network first, either wired or wireless connection.
  2. Launch Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client (can be found through Launchpad).
  3. Enter your LDAP name and password and click OK.
  4. After you have been connected to vpn, click on Screen Sharing on the dock.
  5. Enter your connection information like below (replace hostname with your computer name) and click Connect.
  6. Enter your name and password for the Mac at work and click Connect.
  7. After connecting to the Mac at work, you can save this connection for easier reconnecting later on by going to Connection->Save As, give it a name, location, and click Save.
  8. The saved connection will look like this.
  9. Double-clicking the saved connection will bring up the login window.
