A. Purpose
As a member of the University of California community, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) is subject to and strives to achieve the ethical values and standards set forth by the University. This policy summarizes the elements of these standards of ethical conduct.

All persons who work at or visit Berkeley Lab

D. Policy Statement
As a member of the University of California community, Berkeley Lab is subject to and strives to achieve the ethical values and standards set forth by the University. The University's Statement of Ethical Values and Standards of Ethical Conduct may be found in detail here.
The Statement of Ethical Values is:
We are committed to:

- Integrity. We will conduct ourselves with integrity in our dealings with and on behalf of the University.
- Excellence. We will conscientiously strive for excellence in our work.
- Accountability. We will be accountable as individuals and as members of this community for our ethical conduct and for compliance with applicable laws and University policies and directives.
- Respect. We will respect the rights and dignity of others."
The University's Standards of Ethical Conduct apply to members of the Berkeley Lab community. These set forth a statement of belief in ethical, legal, and professional behavior in all dealings inside and outside the Laboratory and University. The twelve elements are:
- Fair Dealing
- Individual Responsibility and Accountability
- Respect for Others
- Compliance with Applicable Laws and Regulations
- Compliance with Applicable University Policies, Procedures and Other Forms of Guidance
- Conflicts of Interest or Commitment
- Ethical Conduct of Research
- Records: Confidentiality/Privacy and Access
- Internal Controls
- Use of University (Laboratory) Resources
- Financial Reporting
- Reporting Violations and Protection from Retaliation

All members of the Berkeley Lab community have responsibility to integrate these Standards of Ethical Conduct into their actions and work at the Laboratory.
