Purpose of Knowledge Article

Provide a workaround for an issue when Browser Gives an "Update Your browser" Message When Opening A Link To A Google Drive Within A Microsoft File (Excel, Powerpoint & Word) on Windows systems.

Resolution

1Right-click on the Start menu button
2Click Run
3Type in regedit
4Click OK

In the Registry Editor, browse to the following location based on the bit version of Office and Windows you have

Create the keys if they do not exist

Windows 32 Bit

Windows 64 Bit

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Common\Internet

6Make sure the Internet subkey is selected
7Select Edit on the menu bar at the top
8Select New
9Select DWORD Value
10You will see a New Value #1 appear, rename it to ForceShellExecute
11Double-click on ForceShellExecute
12Change the Value Data field from 0 to 1
13Click OK
14Exit the Registry Editor
15Save your work and exit all the software and restart the computer
