We support Windows, Mac, and Linux systems in a variety of ways including a software download page and workstation/server support offered by the IT Divisions User Support Dept.
As of 7/2/08:
The standard Windows Operating System is XP. We intend to deploy systems with Vista after the first service pack has been releasedand we have a standard image that works for general lab use. Deployment with Vista as our standard will start in October, 2008.
We see no reason to upgrade an XP system to Vista, and recommend users change operating systems at the time they acquire new hardware. The Mac/PC Support Group (MPSG) and IT Help Desk are using Vista internally in order to prepare for lab wide support. We are also working with early adopters in the user community as part of this learning curve.
The Standard Mac OS is Leopard which was released on Friday Oct 26, 2007.
The IT Division maintains standard software images for Windows Desktops (from Dell and MPC) and Windows Laptops (from Dell).
