IT Division Recommended Hardware and Software

We support Windows, Mac, and Linux systems in a variety of ways including a software download page and workstation/server support offered by the IT Divisions User Support Dept.

As of 9/17/2009:

The recommended Windows Operating System is XP. We intend to deploy systems with Windows 7 after the first service pack has been released and we have a standard image that works for general lab use.

We see no reason to upgrade an XP system to Windows 7 and recommend users change operating systems at the time they acquire new hardware.  Vista users may want to upgrade since it does not require a re-install of the system.

The recommended Mac OS is Snow Leopard.  The upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard is much like Windows 7 from Vista - nothing is lost in the upgrade.

The IT Division maintains standard software images for Windows Desktops and Windows Laptops from Dell.
