How are accounts Requested?
Quick Summary
Go here to request an account. For Institutional Accounts (LDAP Based Accounts), the person must already have an active record in the HR System, as either an employee or participating guest.
Details
- A person must exist in the LBL LDAP directory before an account may be created. The LDAP directory receives information about new employees once per day from the Human Resources Data Warehouse. This account creates:
- a Berkeley Lab email address, ("[email protected]"), that delivers to a Lab Gmail account, and
- an LDAP username, ("username"), that is used to sign in to many services at the Lab, including: Gmail, Google Docs, LETS, EH&S Training, etc.
- Accounts (http://www.lbl.gov/IT/CIS/accounts/gapps.html) are created only if requested.
- Accounts are requested via the form at http://www.lbl.gov/IT/CIS/accounts.html.
- Typically, accounts are created within 24 hours of being requested.
- Ideally, a new employee or someone in the new employee's department will request an account before a new employee's first day of work.
- New employees often (ideally) receive their LDAP passwords from the Badge Office when they receive their badges. Some call the Help Desk for a password.
