The Shops employs experienced fabrication estimators with manufacturing backgrounds, working with the Shop's technical staff to develop accurate cost estimates for a wide range of fabrication projects. Every effort is made to ensure actual costs do not exceed estimated costs. Occasionally, projects of sufficient complexity or manufacturability uncertainty will be estimated at "time and materials", meaning no formal estimate is produced and the customer may expect to pay actual labor and material costs.
