Purpose of Knowledge Article:

Guide on how to use https://go.lbl.gov to create a short link/short URL and manage the short link/short URL.

For example:

  • from https://commons.lbl.gov/display/itfaq/Go.lbl.gov to https://go.lbl.gov/go
    OR
  • from https://anatomywarehouse.com/4d-vision-great-white-shark-anatomy-model-a-103537 to https://go.lbl.gov/sharks

Resolution:

    In the Path for link field, type in the name you would like to use for it.

    Note: Path for link field can not be changed once it is set.

    In the Target destination URL field, enter the website URL that you want the short link to point to.

    In the Who may manage this link field, enter the username for those who you would like to allow to manage the short link.

    Check the box for the feature you want for your short link:

    • Append path to target - leave this box unchecked
    • Require authentication - check this box if you want the user to verify their identity with their Berkeley Lab Identity account
    • Only temporary (302) - check this box if you will use this short link only temporary and will delete it

    Click Add.

    2 Under the Managers column, enter your username in the Filter column field.



    3 Select the short link you want to make changes to form the list.

    Make the changes you want for the following field:

    • Target destination
    • Who may manage this link
    • Feature section

    Path for link field can not be modified. If you wish to change the Path for link field, you will need to delete the entire short link and create a new one.

    Click Update.

    OR

    Click Delete if you want to remove it completely.
