General Public / Outside Agencies

The Environmental Planning website contains information and links to issues of interest to outside agencies, organizations, and the general public. Among these issues are opportunities to learn about or participate in on-going NEPA and CEQA processes; availability of current and past environmental documents; and general environmental information about Berkeley Lab. Customers who seek Berkeley Lab environmental planning information may find it in the links below. Otherwise, please contact the Lab’s Environmental Planner.

Research Divisions

Berkeley Lab research activities are subject to NEPA and CEQA reviews and approval prior to commencement. Typically, Principal Investigators are responsible for filling out and signing a NEPA & CEQA form and submitting it to their Research Division as part of proposals for research funding. The Research Division coordinators submit these proposals to the Environmental Planning group for review and determination prior to research approvals and funding. Berkeley Lab researchers and Research Division staff who seek environmental planning information or assistance may find it in the links below. Otherwise, please contact the Lab's  Environmental Planner.

Operations Divisions

Most Berkeley Lab activities are subject to NEPA and CEQA reviews and approval prior to commencement. These include major activites, such as capital construction, demolition, excavation, and renovation projects, and acquisition of off-site leases. They also include relatively minor activities, such as maintenance, groundskeeping, landscaping, transporting and installing materials, etc. Typically, project managers or work supervisors are responsible for submitting project proposals to the Environmental Planning group for review and determination. For activities that do not warrant individual proposals, work leads must coordinate with the Environmental Planning group to ensure that on-going activities are in compliance. Facilities, EH&S, and other Operations Divisions staff who seek environmental planning information or assistance may find it in the links below. Otherwise, please contact the Lab’s Environmental Planner.
