    Passkeys: Firefox on Linux

Passkey support on Linux is significantly limited compared to Windows or macOS because Linux lacks a native "platform" provider.

How to Use Passkeys on Linux

Since the OS and browser don't provide a solution, you must use one of the following:

    Method Requirements
Hardware Key A physical YubiKey (or similar FIDO2 device).
3rd-Party Extension A password manager plugin like 1Password, Bitwarden, or KeePassXC.

    Critical Constraints

    • No Native Support: Linux has no built-in system (like Windows Hello or Apple Passwords) to store passkeys.

    • Firefox Limitations: * Firefox's internal password manager cannot store passkeys.

      • Firefox on Linux cannot use "cross-device" logins (no QR codes to scan with your phone).
