Magazine/Newspaper Articles
Searching for magazine/newspaper articles, such as in the Harvard Business Review, Wall Street Journal, or The Economist for example, is a little different than searching for a research journal article. For research journal articles, we have Web of Science, Scopus or possibly Google Scholar. For magazine articles, we would take a different route, though Google Scholar is always an option.
(When working remotely, make sure that you have the LBNL VPN on your computer so you are recognized as belonging to LBNL.)
Looking for a known article from a popular magazine
In this situation, use Citation Linker.
This will search various databases to see if we subscribe to the magazine. (You will need to know the article and magazine title and the publication date to use this and, depending on the magazine, there may be a lag in the currency of the results.) You may have to perform the search again within the resulting database and set limits for Magazine rather than Journal.
Looking for an issue of a known popular magazine
Many of our magazines are available via the eJournals page.
You can search by Title, Category or by Citation Linker (see above). (Depending on the magazine, there may be a lag in the currency of the results.)
Looking for topic/subject from a popular magazine
Articles for many of our popular magazines are available via Academic Search Complete
Type in the topic/subject you are looking for, set any limits you need down the left hand side of the page, and hit the big green Search button. (Depending on the magazine, there may be a lag in the currency of the results.)
You can also search Oskicat, the library catalog, for the magazine title, and if we subscribe to it, you can then access articles through the links within the magazine itself.
