The fast shutter is an nm laser shutter with millisecond switch time that is actuated through a magnetic field. It's magnetic actuator is in the off-status while closed and in the on-status when open. It creates a lot of heat while actuated (open) and thus needs to be water cooled.
On 12.2.2, the shutter is placed in the hutch before the slit. The back of the shutter blade is equipped with a YAG crystal that creates a fluorescence image, which is used for alignment and feedback purposes.
You can change the fast shutter status in the BCS system and the ACQ system.
