Problems preventing respondents from learning

CatergoryRespondent quotes
Not enough time / Too much work
  • Too much on my plate on a daily basis!
  • Not enough time or the right circumstances.
  • lots of wet lab stuff
  • Lab works sometimes don't allow me dedicate the time.
  • Too many meetings :)
  • Too much work to do
  • possible conflicting meetings.. it would be nice to have a recorded webinar
  • I am currently in the 3d year of no sleep, with 2.5-year and 7-month old little girls. I would say this is the largest factor, and I'm sure no further explanation is needed.
  • JIRA tickets
  • My ever-growing TODO list
  • overwork
  • workload
  • Staffing/production priorities
  • Too much work to do
  • Just busy
  • having to write a manuscript for months that nobody can agree on the "perfect" language for, but probably nobody will read it anyway
  • Workload. Lack of opportunity to practice the skills in my workloads.
Setting aside time / Not a priority
  • workload bleeding into dedicated time, which is why workshops or classes would enforce time away from trying to do other work.
  • Setting aside time
  • Main assignments at JGI are not data analysis, limited time allocation for learning data science, e.g. on my way home an from home and during breaks
  • other things to learn
Support for learning or using skills
  • The support from my supervisor.
  • Workload. Lack of opportunity to practice the skills in my workloads.
Learning content
  • Some of the talks and workshops at JGI are too advanced for me; I have shied away from office hours because I'm a beginner and feel a little intimidated
  • If the program is more theoretical than hands-on. It should have a balance between theory and application.
Other
  • If I plan to return to school for a higher degree next year.
