You're responsible for ensuring that your websites’ use of Google Analytics are in alignment with Berkeley Lab Terms and Conditions, the Google Analytics Terms of Service, and with relevant state, local, and international privacy regulations. This includes providing appropriate notice of policies and avoiding the use and collection of personally identifiable information (PII).
Google Analytics provides tools and best practices to help prevent collection of PII.
- Data redaction: The data-redaction feature helps to prevent transmission of PII via email addresses and URL query parameters.
- Request deletion of data: If you need to delete data from the Analytics servers for any reason, then you can use a data-deletion request to issue a request for its removal. The Editor role is required to make data-deletion requests for an Analytics property.
- Data retention: Control the amount of time that data is stored on Google Analytics servers.
You may choose not to enable optional Analytics tools which make use of more advanced tracking technologies, such as:
- Enhanced measurement, mentioned in Step 4 of Adding a data stream.
- Google Signals. Alternatively, you can enable or disable Signals in specific regions only.
