Important: Google recently implemented an identity verification requirement for actions it deems sensitive

Examples of sensitive actions:

  • Downloading data
  • Creating or modifying Gmail filters
  • Adding a forwarding address in Gmail
  • Enabling IMAP access in Gmail
  • Adding a Gmail delegate

Ways to verify your identity:

  • A device linked to the recovery phone number of your account
  • A device that's signed in to your Google Account

Important: To protect your account and data, Google may not allow you to complete a sensitive action for 7 days. This happens if Google can’t verify your identity.

  • In the 7-day period: You can still use and access your account, but you won’t be allowed to update any sensitive information or complete sensitive actions unless you verify it’s you.
  • After the 7-day period, you can access the relevant sensitive action even without the verification.
