Overview

IT Collaboration Services has an account with Atlassian (vendor for this wiki) for a hosted Distributed Version Control System (DVCS) called Bitbucket.  This is a hosted code management system in the cloud and supports Git.

Requesting Access

You can use your Google email address and password to access the system - once IT creates a repository for you.  Enter a request by emailing [email protected] and provide the following information in your email:

  1. Title of Request: Bitbucket Lab Repository
  2. Name of repository in the form division-project (e.g. ESD-Tough2) if this is a division centric project (see options below if this does not work for you)
  3. Manager of the repository (LBL email address)

Repository will be set to private. Make sure you go through the IPO process and have the appropriate authorizations from the University of California before making a repository public.

Repository Naming Options

We plan to provide repository names in the form Division-Project (e.g. ESD-Tough2) - but these can be changed by the repository owner if the project is not division centric. (lbl-name or just the name with no prefix if it involves multiple institutions)

Establishing your account with Bitbucket

The sequence of account registration steps are documented in this page.

Bitbucket repositories owned by the LBL institutional account can have unlimited users.

If you are invited to manage or contribute to a Bitbucket repository owned by the LBL institutional account, you will also have automatic access to a private space with limitations (e.g. up to 5 people can work on a repo) as well as the lab account.
