We use STOE STADIVARI (a 4-circle diffractometer) in vertical set-up. The beamline photon energy range is 6-35keV with an x-ray spot size down to 50x70 μm at End-station 1. The STOE STADIVARI was selected due to its ability to easily mount the heavy high pressure cells (up to 2 kg) and yet maintain its high precision and accuracy. The STOE STADIVARI four circle XRDs have a sphere of confusion of less than 10 µm in diameter / 5 µm in radius. In addition, STOE’s powerful user-friendly software (XAREA) makes high quality data acquisition and analysis remarkably fast.
The clean-up pinhole is one of the most important optical components and plays a critical role in diminishing background contribution by shaping and confining the incident beam coming to the sample gasket hole. It provides great advantage to avoid X-ray scatter from metal gasket. At 12.2.2, we use a ϕ 25 µm Ta pinhole located on upstream side and at a distance of ~200 mm from sample. It can be replaced with rescanning Pinhole X and Y positions within ±300 µm range.
