Bench Space, tools useful for Diamond Anvil Cell preparation, and short term storage is available in Room 6-2241, the ALS High Pressure Lab (HP Lab)

The lab is managed by BL 12.2.2 staff, as it is primarily utilized by 12.2.2 Users, but is available for any ALS researcher who find the tools and equipment available useful.

Please note: the HP lab is a support facility for ALS users, not a support facility for Diamond Anvil Cell research outside the context of the ALS.

Capabilities:

Gas Loader: We have an apparatus capable of loading 25,000PSI inert gasses as pressure mediums for DACs. See Gas Loader DAC prep page for details.

Laser Mill: We have a commercial 532nm lasermilling machine from Oxford Instruments specialized for cutting accurate small diameter very round holes in typical DAC gasket materials.

Microscopes:We have several binocular high magnification Leica Microscopes with long distance objectives suitable for DAC preparation work.

Fume Hoods:The HP lab is a fully certified chemistry laboratory and we have the ability to deal with hazardous materials if need be, although all such work requires pre-authorization and work planning.
