How do I find, check out, request, and return books?
Search UC Library Search to locate items held by the LBNL, UCB or UC libraries. This will bring up both print and electronic books. (To get print books, go to Advanced Search and change the Material Type from "All Items" to "Books". Most of LBNL's books are currently being moved to another location. (Contact a library at [email protected] to obtain a book from that collection.) A smaller collection of newer books is in the Reading Lounge, Bldg. 54-002 (the room downstairs in the cafeteria). To check out LBNL's books, fill out the card in the back of the book and drop the card in a designated box, or contact a librarian at [email protected].
The LBNL Library is working in cooperation with the University of California-Berkeley Library system. As such, we are following many of their procedures and rules. Take a moment to find information about Borrowing, Loan Periods, Renewals and My Oskicat, and Overdue, Lost or Damaged Materials. The loan period for most LBNL materials is 30 days.
Search WorldCat to locate items held by libraries around the world. Use the orange button labeled "Request" to request an item from many libraries anywhere. Currently, this service fills patron requests for only electronic copies of articles, book chapters, and books.
To return books:
Books can be returned to the LBNL Library four ways:
- Via the drop box located just outside 50B-2231. (Turn left as you exit the elevator on the second floor.)
- Via the drop box located in the Reading Lounge, 54-002. (The building should be open business hours.)
- Via mail: Library, One Cyclotron Road, 50-4032.
- Any UCB Library book return.
Ask an LBNL Reference Librarian by sending your request to [email protected].
