Commons is a commercial Wiki offered to Berkeley Lab for general use. The Wiki is divided into spaces--some existing ones can be used by anyone at LBNL (e.g., the community or department/division space). For special needs, Berkeley Lab users can request a "Space" and manage their own area. We are using a commercial product from Atlassian called Confluence. It provides page-level permissions, a rich text editor (as well as a Wiki markup language), and a large number of macros that can help customize a site.
Go to Commons and authenticate using your LDAP user ID and password. Accounts do not have to be provisioned by IT--the first time you log in, your account will be created.
Check out the Online tutorials, help documentation, or ask for assistance from the Helpdesk and the collaboration support group.
- A "Getting Started " tab on the dashboard provides links to documentation and video-based overviews of the product. A Sandbox (a space open to anyone for experimentation) is also provided.

The service is part of the Berkeley Lab Technology Resource Kit and is provided to all employees and affiliates at no recharge.
