The IT Division is offering two 3 hour Arduino workshops on Thursday, August 22, from 9:00am-12:00pm and 1:00pm-4:00pm in Pers Hall (54-130).   The two sessions are identical.  The cost of the workshop is FREE.  Starter kits will be provided for use in the class.

Scientists throughout the world are making use of inexpensive Arduino hardware in experiments; this course will provide the foundation to help you understand how Arduino can help with your work.

Course Outline:

1. Introduction and Installation:
Download and install Arduino; verify correct functionality by downloading first sketch.
Each participant is assisted as necessary.

2. Basic electronic circuits, components, and solderless breadboard

3. Overview of Arduino program (sketch)

4. Sensors: How Arduino reads inputs

5. Communication: Sending information from Arduino back to the laptop

6. How to use sensor data to control an output (actuator)

7. Digital sensors (switches)

8. Arduino programming concepts: loops, conditions

9. Controlling brightness

10. Motors and transistors

11. Mixing it up: How to program complex behaviors

12. Review and summary

13. Where to go next
