Environmental planning considers how Berkeley Lab may impact the environment and surrounding communities.
The Facilities Planning Department ensures that Berkeley Lab is in compliance with NEPA, CEQA, and other applicable environmental regulations. It provides environmental analysis and guidance to Berkeley Lab, University of California, Department of Energy, and other decision makers.
The Facilities Planning Department reviews all Berkeley Lab activities, including research proposals, operations, and major development projects. Mitigation monitoring and reporting pursuant to NEPA and CEQA is overseen as part of environmental planning, along with Berkeley Lab’s 2006 Long Range Development Plan Environmental Impact Report. A Project Library includes completed and inactive projects.
