    Graded Approach Overview

The LBNL engineering division quality assurance is embedded in LBNL institutional Quality Management System (QMS).

In addition to the Quality Assurance Policy, documented in the Requirements and Policies Manual (RPM), the LBNL Quality Assurance Program Description (QAPD) documents the operating principles and practices used by organizations to achieve reliable, safe, and quality performance in their work activities.

Following the institutional QMS framework, the LBNL engineering division utilizes the graded approach to QA for engineering projects. There are three levels of projects: Low, Medium and High. Additional information on how the the graded approach is implemented within the LBNL engineering division and how the project's grade is determined can be found here.

The graded approach details a project's level of requirements for the following activities:

    QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM IN PRODUCTION

The Production is organized to implement the 9 Quality Basic Principles in Production and the transversal Basic Principle 10 relative to the traceability.

The production process is supported by work instructions, change management, and quality control protocols.
