  1. JGI senior leadership has endorsed the use of continuous improvement methods and tools to propagate the success characteristic to a continuous improvement environment.
    1. This is an important element for achieving, sustaining, and replicating continuous improvements within JGI.

 

  1. JGI has “kicked-off” a Continuous Improvement Team
    1. Team consists of leaders who have succeeded in implementing process improvements in their areas.
    2. Some team members have certified as Lean Six Sigma Champions and Yellow Belts
    3. Team is the forming stage
    4. Fundamental elements and desired outcomes of CIT are being determined

 

  1. Lean Six Sigma Lessons Learned Discussion
    1. Steve Grace asked questions regarding the intent and direction of the team
  1.                                                                i.      Emphasized the value and strategic advantage of ensuring CIT projects are aligned with institutional objectives
  2.                                                              ii.      Highly recommended the creation of a charter for the team
  3.                                                            iii.      Emphasized the importance of executing projects in such a way that they create a “pull”.  Meaning, the success of the projects themselves will pique other leader’s interest to use the same problem solving approach to achieve their objectives.
  4.                                                            iv.      These methods are applicable and adaptable to many situations
  5.                                                              v.      Critical success elements are in place at JGI: senior management support, excellent leadership within the organizations, trained workforce to teach and lead others.
        1. Charter would be reviewed and endorsed by sr. leadership and CIT members.
        1. Rex’s comments regarding can transitioning from research to production comes to mind

 

Action items

  • Steve Grace - email the A3 tool (a template used for strategic planning and process alignment) and an example of a charter.

  • Create and review a charter for the team - Kecia M Duffy Christine L Naca Mike Barton
  • Define a short list of projects - each member of the team will bring some to the next meeting
  • Designate a chair for the team
